Shahid Kapoor’s upcoming movie ‘Padmavati’ has been in news for all the wrong reasons.

The movie directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali has been in trouble for its content. Certain groups believed that the movie was going to distort history over the depiction of queen Padmavati.

But Shahid Kapoor hopes that the people will the movie a chance.

“Our attempt will be to shoot the film smoothly. And we just hope when the film releases people look at it in an unbiased way and after that they can say what they want to. Sanjay sir is keeping in mind the sentiments of the people. We will not do anything that will hurt people,” Shahid told reporters during an interview.

During the movie’s shooting in Jaipur, activists of Shri Rajput Karni Sena vandalised the film’s set and assaulted Bhansali, forcing him to shift his set to Maharashtra. Unfortunately, he wasn’t spared even in Kolhapur in Maharashtra as the movie’s set was torched by unidentified attackers. Around 80 to 90 percent of jewellery and costumes for the movie were burnt to ashes in the attack.

‘Padmavati’ stars Deepika Padukone in the titular role of Rani Padmini. Shahid Kapoor will play Rana Rawal Ratan Singh, the 42nd ruler of Mewar and husband of Padmini. Ranveer Singh will essay the role of Alauddin Khilji, the second Sultan of the Khilji Dynasty, who fell in love with Padmini. And Aditi Rao Hydari will play the wife of Alauddin Khilji.

The movie is slated to release on 17 November 2017.
