After playing Sanjay Dutt in the recently released ‘Sanju’, Ranbir Kapoor is all set to clash with Sanjay Dutt on the screen in action drama movie ‘Shamshera’ on July 31, 2020.
Yash Raj Films announced the release date of the movie that stars Ranbir Kapoor as a dacoit, while Sanjay Dutt plays a “ruthless, merciless villain”. The movie also stars Vaani Kapoor as a “gorgeous temptress”.
‘Shamshera’ will be a "high-octane masala film," a YRF statement revealed. "An edge of the seat adventure, it is set in the heartland of India and will have jaw-dropping action sequences," the statement read.
The movie will be directed by Karan Malhotra, who preciously directed ‘Agneepath’ that also starred Sanjay Dutt in a negative role.
In a motion poster released by Yash Raj Films on May 7, an animated version of Ranbir Kapoor was seen in the garb of a dacoit, holding a battle axe in one hand and arrows in another.
In an earlier interview with PTI, Ranbir said, “Shamshera is not a story of a ‘daaku’, but a film based in the 1800s, it is about a dacoit tribe who are fighting for their right and independence from the British. There was a great story of heroism, a story rooted in our country which actually happened back then.”
He also said, “It is a departure from the kind of films I have done, it is not the coming-of-age lover boy roles which I have done often. Shamshera is in the aspirational space, the space of true, badass commercial cinema.”
Produced by Yash Raj Films, ‘Shamshera’ goes on floors at the end of this year.
