Director Karan Johar has announced his next directorial venture ‘Takht’. The movie set during the Mughal reign will star Ranveer Singh, Kareena Kapoor Khan and Alia Bhatt in the lead. They will be supported by Anil Kapoor, Vicky Kaushal, Bhumi Pednekar and Janhvi Kapoor.

Karan announced the big news on Twitter.

“An incredible story embedded in history... An epic battle for the majestic Mughal throne... A story of a family, of ambition, of greed, of betrayal, of love & of succession... TAKHT is about WAR for LOVE....” he revealed.

While Karan has not revealed the story of the film, speculation says it will revolve around the war between siblings Dara Shikoh and Aurangzeb. Vicky Kaushal will reportedly play the role of Aurangzeb and Ranveer Singh’s brother in the movie. Kareena Kapoor Khan will essay the role of Ranveer Singh’s character’s sister, whereas Alia Bhatt will play his love interest in the film. Ranveer Singh will play the role of Dara Shukoh in the film whereas Kareena Kapoor Khan will portray Jahanara Begum’s role in the film.

Sumit Roy has written the screenplay and Hussain Haidry and Sumit Roy have jointly written the dialogues.

The film will release in 2020.
