The current #MeToo moment that is finally happening in Bollywood has been garnering support from every quarter. Not just netizens but also celebrities such as Sonam Kapoor, Kangana Ranaut, Priyanka Chopra, Anushka Sharma, Farhan Akhtar, Imran Khan etc have voiced their support for the moment.
The latest Bollywood celebrity to put her two cents on the topic is Aishwarya Rai Bachchan.
In an interview to Huffington post, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan mentioned that she was glad that the movement had gained momentum and that such incidents have been happening from quite a long time. The Jazbaa actress said, “I have always spoken out, I spoke in the past, I am speaking now, and I will continue to speak. When it comes to helping women find their voice, find the strength, feel confident about sharing their stories, it's not about the current time. This has been going on since a lot of time and I am glad it has found a certain momentum today."
She also lauded social media for helping the victims in coming forward about such incidents.
“Social media has enabled the conversation and any woman who comes from any part of the world today has a voice that will be heard.” Though she did not comment on any specific cases but she went ahead and said, “the #MeToo movement has been the need of the hour since time immemorial and I hope together we keep the momentum going. At the same time, if a case gets sub judice, we have to respect the law of the land," she said.
Recently actress Flora Saini revealed that Aishwarya Rai Bachchan had walked out of a project once she realised that the producer of the movie was physically abusing Flora. Flora stated that Aishwarya Rai’s support meant a lot to her.
