The trailer of ‘Cheat India’, starring Emraan Hashmi in the lead, was unveiled on Tuesday. Directed by Soumik Sen, known for his film ‘Gulabi Gang’, the trailer looks promising.
The over two-minute trailer showcases the seamier side of education system and entrance exams in India. Emraan Hashmi plays a shrewd scamster in the film who fraudulently gets students into engineering and management colleges. He amasses a team of people who write exams on behalf of other candidates, and in the end, everyone gets what they want. Students can go to their dream college, people who need money write exams and get a taste of luxury, while Hashmi gets his cash.
The movie looks like a commentary India's standardised education system. Although Hashmi's deeds affect millions of people, he maintains rather emphatically that he is only helping those in need. He does not consider his exam racket unlawful. He thinks it is a business and he is the Robin Hood of the education sector. He claims that he is taking money from the rich and giving it to the needy. The rich too aren’t at loss as they too are getting what they want in the end.
From the trailer it looks like the director has steered clear of melodrama has kept the tone of the movie realistic without clichés and loud proclamations. The trailer packs a punch with its subject material and the glaring loopholes of our educational system.
Produced by Bhushan Kumar’s T-Series, Tanuj Garg and Atul Kasbekar’s Ellipsis Entertainment, and Emraan Hashmi Films, ‘Cheat India’ is scheduled to release on 25 January, 2019.
