The trailer of one of the most anticipated films of this year ‘Sonchiriya’ is out. Directed by Abhishek Chaubey, the movie stars Sushant Singh Rajput in an ensemble cast along with Bhumi Pednekar, Manoj Bajpayee, Ranvir Shorey and Ashutosh Rana among others.

The film is set in the 1975 in the Chambal region, when the Emergency was declared across the country. The film follows a group of rebel dacoits who cross paths with violent policemen and other interesting characters along the way.

Sushant Singh Rajput, Manoj Bajpayee and Ranvir Shorey play the baaghis or rebels terrorising the region. Rajput is Lakhna, a member of Vakil's (Shorey) gang. Bhumi Pednekar later joins them as they traverse through the dry, mountainous ravines and Ashutosh Rana, who plays a policeman, tasked with the responsibility to cleanse the area of all the bandits, and who vows to kill them all.

Bollywood hasn’t witnessed a Decoit movie in a long time and ‘Sonchiriya’ trailer promises to fill the gap.

The movie is produced by Ronnie Screwvala's RSVP.

The film has been shot in MP and is a completely fictionalized account of the era. Talking about his film, Chaubey earlier told a news channel, “Bandits have been around for ages. They are criminals but it’s a huge tradition -- their society and life. There are so many layers to it. Why they were the way they were why they were bandits but they called themselves rebels so what was it that motivated them to live like that. It’s a part of our history and culture and I’m really shocked that we’re not telling more stories about them. In the West, it’s an established genre which is still being explored.”

'Sonchiriya' will release on February 8.
