The 21st edition Jio MAMI Film Festival started yesterday. The first session was hosted by film critics Rajeev Masand and Anupama Chopra. They indulged in tete-a-tete with the newly appointed chairperson of the festival, Deepika Padukone.

During the interaction Deepika Padukone was asked was asked the difference between Ranbir Kapoor and Ranveer Singh’s acting.

"Ranbir doesn’t really have a process; he is very spontaneous. I have never really seen him ‘prepare’ for his role as such. He’s like me in that respect. Our approach is 50% rehearsed and 50% spontaneous," she said.

On her hubby Ranveer, she said, "Ranveer, really gets into the process. He changes everything for the role – right from the car he drives, to the clothes and the perfume he wears. He’s a different person every six months, which is probably one of the reasons why our relationship has lasted so long; I never get bored."

The actress also shared her own process.

Revealing her acting process, Deepika Padukone stated, “I have never really worked towards keeping a count on the number of films I have done, but more about connecting with the work I have done. My acting process begins with the narration. While a great narration may not necessarily translate into a great movie, it helps me visualize the story and the character. It helps bring out the honesty of the script.”

Deepika Padukone will next be seen in Meghna Gulzar’s ‘Chhapaak’. The actress will play the role of a acidic attack survivor Laxmi Agarwal. The actress also spoke about the movie and how draining it was.

“The characters you play don’t just go away at the snap of the finger. They linger in your mind; they get pushed to the back as you start playing a new character; but they never entirely go away. Chhapaak was also a very physically draining movie; it would take at least three hours to put on the make-up every day and an hour to take it off. Even emotionally, it’s one of my most challenging roles yet and I’m looking forward to bringing it to audiences.”

The film stars Vikrant Massey as the male lead and it's their first outing together. The movie also marks Deepika Padukone’s debut as a producer.

Deepika also revealed that she is currently looking into a movie with a dark tone.

"I have found a film that I am likely to do early next year but it's not light. It's quite dark but still in the romance space," she concluded.

‘Chhapaak’ is a biopic based on the life on Laxmi Agarwal. In the film, Deepika Padukone plays the role of an acid attack survivor named Malti. The shooting for the film began today and it's being helmed by Meghna Gulzar.

The shooting of the movie was recently wrapped up. The movie also marks Deepika Padukone’s debut as a producer.

‘Chhapaak’ is set to hit the screens on January 10, 2019.
